KM Recommends: Diplomatic Baggage: The Adventures of a Trailing Spouse by Brigid Keenan

Diplomatic Baggage is what I now deem as one of my most memorable reads.

Brigid Keenan, an expat wife/mother/journalist/do it all, writes about her unconventional life traveling and living abroad. She comically retells her unlikely adventures through somewhat naive but well meaning eyes, and beautifully describes the many people and places she has crossed paths with.

Brigid takes the reader all over the world, from Trinidad to Kazakhstan, and shyly lets us in on her mishaps, as well as achievements. You will cringe and you will awe, most likely at the very same time.

It’s a book that will revive your desire to travel, no matter what scale of the ‘travel bug meter’ you’re on, and will leave you wanting a life full of meaning rather than material things.

This book was recommended by my friend, the bookworm, and now I smugly pass on the recommendation to my travel buddies. Maybe one day we will have just as many stories to tell. Possibly even enough to write a book.
